Famous Czech composer. In youth he spend one year in concentration camp because of half-Jewish origin. After Second World War he studied music and piano at Academy of Music (AMU) in Prague. From 1955 he was teacher of history of music at Charles University. After Velvet Revolution he became a professor. He composed huge amount of compositions, cantatas, oratorio, chamber music and songs for children.
